Description
Our show is named OFRENDA: an offering as a credit to the premiere of Eddie Salas’ impressive 30 min work, Ofrenda Cecilia, which comprises the full second act of the performance.
Ofrendas are typically associated with altars, photos, food, drinks, flowers, gifts and personal items to honor the departed, especially around the time of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). These offerings are believed to help the deceased journey to the next plane and to encourage visits from departed souls from the land of the dead.
Ofrenda Cecilia is Eddie’s offering to his abuelita Cecilia, and OFRENDA is our collective offering to the community, honoring the past, present, and future each artist brings with them to this project.
Through this artistic offering, we pay homage to the relationships we have formed and the space we have built to showcase both our beautiful strengths and our deep vulnerabilities.
OFRENDA will take place on the first anniversary of Cecila’s passing and the second day of Día de los Muertos, but it is not meant to emulate a traditional Día de los Muertos celebration. If you’d like to learn more about traditional ofrendas and Día de los Muertos, please visit dayofthedead.holiday.
