Top 5 Things to Do in Madison This Week: July 8, 2024

Flamingos, Fete, Art Fair, Physics and dinosaurs downtown, and an environmental fun fair

By Aaron Seligman, MacaroniKID Madison publisher July 8, 2024

Every week, Macaroni KID Madison highlights free/low-cost ideas to do with kids in the Madison area in addition to the events in our newsletter and on our calendar. Click the links for all the details.

  1. Mingo Mania. The Forward FC soccer games are fun, in part because of all the extras going on around the game. Enjoy all of it (minus the game) for free Wednesday evening to meet the players with balloons, a petting zoo, arts and crafts, games, and other giveaways - plus you can learn some skills with players free at Monday's Kids on State activity, and their themed game Saturday
  2. Fête De Marquette. One of our favorites - Thursday-Sunday with tons of great food options, a kids area with both paid games and free play, plus music (including a kids karaoke contest - free ice cream for all participants!)
  3. Art Fair on the Square. Another classic Madison summer festival - check out tons of amazing artists and performances from all over as you walk around the Square Saturday/Sunday, and hit the kids art cart for free activities (and in parks throughout the summer).
  4. Dinos, physics, and more downtown. On Tuesday the "wonders of physics" show is free at the Monona Terrace (we loved it in December); and with a membership/admission the Children's Museum has a full slate of dinosaur-themed extra activities Thursday-Sunday.
  5. Environmental Fun Fair. The Lussier Family Center is a great spot all summer for hikes/bikes and other programs, and Sunday has a free environmental fun fair with games, tree climbs, science, books, and lots more all afternoon.

Plus get excited for Sun Prairie's Kids Fest and color splash and Amara's Bluey Kid Karnival next weekend!
