Top 5 Other Things to Do in Madison This Week: April 8th

Eclipse viewing, kid-friendly ballet, Sun Prairie's week, celebrity basketball, and 9in9 out fair

By Aaron Seligman, MacaroniKID Madison publisher April 8, 2024

Every week, Macaroni KID Madison highlights free/low-cost ideas to do with kids in the Madison area in addition to the events in our newsletter and on our calendar. Click the links for all the details.

This week the Film Fest continues, our partners at Acton Academy have their kids business fair, plus:

  1. Solar Eclipse Viewing. Today (Monday) the Monona Library has a live stream and activities, or on campus the UW-Astronomy club has tools on Library Mall and a live stream in the Rathskeller, or the UW Space Place on Park Street. Plus you can make your own pinhole projector.
  2. Free ballet - and more performances. On Sunday, Dance Wisconsin offers a free "spring" themed performance geared towards kids (ps they're REALLY good), plus community theaters are in action with Finding Nemo Jr.  and Matilda Jr.  in Verona (Thursday-Saturday), the Wizard of Oz at Monona Grove high school (Th-S), and get ready for Beauty and the Beast in Sun Prairie with a kids camp Saturday to learn a song/dance and get a ticket to the show
  3. Week of the Young Child. Sun Prairie is full of free activities for the week with instrument show-and-tell, tasty treats, Lego party, arts, and a family fun night.
  4. Celebrity Basketball ExperienceSupport Easter Seals (which helps people with disabilities) at their FREE basketball skills clinic for kids, followed by a celebrity game with lots of other games, prizes, and giveaways Saturday.
  5. 9in9 Out Expo. At Union South Sunday, expecting and new parents especially can get to know some great community resources - and I'll be leading a session at 11 am about finding great family activities (and pushing back on "dad duty" stereotypes).

And plan ahead for  more spring consignment sales with Half-Pint Resale (April 19-21 - with a spring fling - including a bounce house, crafts, face painting, martial arts, and more for the 20th), and Just Between Friends May 9-11.

What did we miss? You can add events to our calendar (it's free!) and contact us about promoting your event or organization.
