Every week, Macaroni KID Madison highlights free/low-cost ideas to do with kids in the Madison area. Click the links for all the details. This week our friends at Amara have a fun pre-valentine's family activity with cookie decorating and crafts for kids, plus a drink for parents Sunday. And check out:
1. Family Winter Carnivals. At the Memorial Union Wednesday-Saturday, there's multiple options every day, including skating, hikes, food specials, pond hockey, and FIREWORKS, plus a special family Saturday with a dance party, scavenger hunt, and more at Alumni Park Saturday- be sure to check as warm weather may cancel some of the ice activities. And if you're farther west, Mt. Horeb's Scandihoovian Winter Festival promises lots of family fun too with games, sculptures, and more.
2. Science is Enchanting. Stay on the UW campus for free wonders of physics show, head to the MMSD planetarium for their "Enchantment Under the Stars" show (Friday-Sunday), or the Sensory Zone for slime time Saturday (bonus - someone else cleans the mess).
3. Skate +. It's another stories and $1 scoops with free skating Monday in Monona and free night Tuesday, skate to music Friday at Vilas Park, a superhero skate at the Edgewater Saturday, and if the weather holds up a skate + movie at Tenney Park,
4. Hit the trails. Can't count on frozen ice or snow - but trails are still great to explore. Take a luminary Hike in Deforest Wednesday, Castle Creek in Waunakee Saturday, and out to Picnic Point (with s'mores) Sunday.
5. Friday night out. You can drop the kids at WiscoKidz for a date night, and together do free art on Monroe Street or a Warner Park fun night, and free movie (and popcorn!) nights at Garver or in Sun Prairie
