Every week, Macaroni KID Madison highlights ideas to do with kids in the Madison area. Click the links for all the details.

This week officially starts the holiday season, and Madison and the surrounding area offers plenty of options, including:

  1. Edgewater Tree Lighting. Our partners at the Edgewater have their terrific tree lighting event with performances, crafts, stories, food, and of course the lights and Santa on Friday
  2. Downtown holiday open house. Downtown Madison from Capitol Square and down State Street has a story walk, holiday trolley and specials Friday-Sunday, plus the lights go on Friday.
  3. Small business shopping and small town lights Saturday. At Hilldale get free donuts and coffee in the morning, plus a swag bag and other specials during the day, and in the evening you can light  up Stonehorse Green in Middleton, the ice rink in Monona, see a firetruck and lights parade in Sun Prairie, and a hometown Christmas in Lodi.
  4. Arts and Crafts. The libraries have some fun arts programs for kids including "bad art" in Fitchburg Monday,  make-your-own puzzle Tuesday, see the drop-in art club Wednesday, and then see how the pros do it Sunday at Garver Feed Mill's Craftacular.
  5. Devil's Lake Night Hike. Head to Devil's Lake for a torch-lit hike and amazing sky views, then warm up with a campfire Saturday
