Top 5 Things to Do in Madison This Week (September 18)

Neighborhood fall fests, community connections, McFarland fun, boats, and more

Every week, Macaroni KID Madison shares our five picks for things to do with your kids in the Madison area. Click the links for all the details. 

This week our calendar features a number of free area library activities, ands check out our and see our guide to all the area farms and orchards, plus:

1. United Way kickoff. Have fun with family-friendly games and food while getting to know community organizations and volunteer opportunities Monday.

2. East side movie, swim, and trucks. This Friday (and most during the school year) Lapham Elementary' s warm pool is open for family swim, the East YMCA has a free family movie night (including popcorn and Kona Ice), and explore big trucks and machines Saturday in Cottage Grove or do an art walk in the Eken Park area.

3. Neighborhood Fall Fests. Fall officially starts Thursday, so celebrate with a fall fest at the Fitchburg Farmer's Market, the Mallards host a Northside festival Saturday with games and food, and in the evening head to the Westmoreland Neighborhood summer nights finale for music, balloons/bounce house, food trucks, and more.

4. McFarland food, fest, and books. Start a visit Wednesday in the  park for their food truck frenzyand keep coming this weekend to McFarland for its festival Thursday-Sunday, including a carnival and  huge used book sale

5. Paddle in the Park. Take advantage of good early fall weather and bring-your-own or rent a canoe to explore the Sugar River area Sunday with Dane County Parks.
