New downtown bookstore - with something for everyone

Lake City Books is independent and local!

By Molly Fish, owner and Aaron Seligman, MacaroniKID Madison publisher June 19, 2023

I recently visited Lake City Books, a new indie bookstore in downtown Madison, Wisconsin selling both new and used books for all ages. It has something for everyone including a large selection of books for kids to help promote a love of reading in the next generation. It's kocated across the street from the popular Madison Children's Museum, and is a great stop for family outings or anyone visiting downtown Madison.

When I stopped in I saw a bunch of my kids favorites books from characters like the Gruffalo, Curious George, Elephant and Piggie, plus a bunch we hadn't seen -- and chapter books and plenty for kids both older and younger. It's also a nice open space so kids can check it out while you browse, and the location is amazing.

Owner Molly Fish said, "I wanted to create the bookstore that I would want to shop at: bright and open with both the latest popular releases and used hidden gems. Hopefully it's the kind of store that you can't walk into without wanting to buy something."  She added,

"I'm really excited about the online ordering system we just rolled out where customers can order books through us even if we don't have it in stock, and then pick it up at the store within a few days. This allows our customers to order almost any book and still support a local business instead of Amazon."
