Top 5 things to do in Madison this week July 29 - Aug 4

Rescheduled fun - wet and dry

By Aaron Seligman July 28, 2026

Every week, Macaroni KID Madison highlights free/low-cost (and NEVER sponsored, just our honestly curated favorite) ideas to do with kids in the Madison area in addition to the events and family-friendly ideas in our newsletter and on our calendar. This week check out:

  1. Smoke-free fun. Last time the wildfires got in the way, so this week we have the rescheduled Goodman Pool 20th anniversary Friday [update - reschedule for 8/14] and Cone Crawl Sunday![UPDATE 7/30, CONE CRAWL CANCLED]
  2. Northstar Fest. The weekly Wednesday market is great with the Capitol view, and the annual Northstar Fest is packed with kid-friendly entertainment and food all day Saturday.
  3. Mustard Day. Head to Middleton for the classic annual National Mustard Day celebration. We've tried the mustard ice cream, and it's actually pretty good!
  4. Liquid Assets. The Clean Lakes Alliance winter frozen assets festival is always a hit, so we're excited to try the summer version on Lake Waubesa for the "liquid assets" fest.
  5. National Night Out - Part 1. MacaroniKID, to be honest, is not the place or voice to speak to recent issues with police and will defer to the thoughtful city and community voices. What we can say is that the annual National Nights Out have been fun community events to learn about public safety. Tuesday features Madison, Verona, and Oregon, with more next week. [UPDATE MADISON NIGHT OUT CANCLED]

Make sure to check out, our ongoing summer fun, weekly live music around Madison and more family fun opportunities!
